Spring Term - Issue 75

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Carers,

On Monday afternoon, Year 5 led a presentation for their parents following work they have completed with Dan Newman from the Xavier Trust as part of a project called Disconnect to Connect that explores the impact of smartphones. Dan then spoke to the parents about the research in relation to smartphones. Dan kindly shared his resources so that we can make them available to all parents. Click here and here to find out more – the research is really compelling.

A group of 16 pupils made a pilgrimage to Arundel Cathedral on Tuesday along with every school from across the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton for a Good Shepherd Celebration with the Bishop. We were privileged to be asked to lead the introduction - thank you to Florence D for reading and to all the children who participated in the liturgical dance.

At the end of this term, we say farewell to Mrs Quinlan who is taking up a 1-year secondment at St. Edmund’s in Godalming as Assistant Head. This is an exciting opportunity for Mrs. Quinlan, but the community of St. Cuthbert Mayne will miss her. Miss Robinson will join our teaching team in September, she currently teaches at Greenfields in Woking. We are also saying goodbye to Miss Davies who has worked in St. David’s Class and After School Club this year. Miss Davies is heading off to University and we wish her all the very best with her studies!

On Tuesday morning next week, the children will have time in their new classrooms with their new teachers as part of our transition work. I know the children have been keen to find out who their teacher will be next year, as I am sure you have been too!

Collective Worship

We celebrated the solemnity of Corpus Christi (the solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ) this week in whole school collective worship where we celebrated the Gospel of the Feeding of the 5000 (Luke’s account). The older children in KS2 were able to make links to the Gospel story and the solemnity of Corpus Christi – they reflected on how Jesus provided for everyone at the feeding of the 5000 and continues to provide for us spiritually through Holy Communion. The younger children thought about what it would have been like to witness Jesus feeding the crowds.

Online Safety – SAVE THE DATE

You should have received information regarding St. Peter’s Online Safety Session for parents next week. You can find out more here if you missed it. This invitation is to all parents.

National Online Safety

Nintendo’s long-awaited Switch 2 has finally arrived, blending fresh hardware with fan-favourite franchises. From Mario to Pikachu, the familiar mascots are back – but so too are evolving online features, in-game purchases, and potential exposure to mature content. As ever, it’s essential that parents and educators understand the risks to young players.

Among these are GameChat voice communication, camera-based gaming, and potential access to mature-rated titles. This guide outlines what to watch out for and how to keep children safe, engaged and having fun.

Transition

This time of year can be unsettling for some children due to the anticipation of upcoming changes to classes or a new school. It is perfectly normal to feel a little nervous about change. Young Minds and The Anna Freud Centre have some useful top tips for parents to support children with change that you may find useful (it is aimed at the transition from Year 6 to 7):

Parking and Road Safety

Points to remember please:

  • Do not park on the zig zag lines

  • Ensure the junction to Ewhurst Road is clear for traffic to enter and exit

  • Do not park on the double yellow lines

  • Be considerate of the residents along St. Nicolas Crescent

  • Take care with where you are crossing – avoid crossing between parked cars

Sayers Croft – Summer activities for children with additional needs

Sayers Croft are running free adventure and exploration days for children with additional needs and their families. The days will take place throughout the summer holidays at their site in Ewhurst and activities include rock climbing, caving, pond dipping, shelter building and much more.
