Dear Parents and Carers,
I think Ms. Robson and I have just come back to earth following the high we were on after the excitement and joy of the Mini Marathon on Saturday. Seeing the joy on the children’s faces and the excitement of receiving their medals was so special. A big thank you to Ms. Robson and Mrs. Harrison for giving up their Saturday to accompany the children. What an amazing experience for the children and perhaps some of them will be future London Marathon runners!

St. George’s class (Year 3) led Collective Worship on Tuesday for the whole school and their families on the theme of their class saint and this week’s Gospel. This gave us all two examples of faithful people to reflect upon. Year 3 certainly channelled St. George’s bravery in the confidence they displayed as they spoke to a full hall. Thank you, Year 3, and Mrs. Woodhams.
As the weather is warming up, it is important to remember to stay safe in the sun. Do please send your child in with a hat – please could we ask if this is a plain hat rather than a more novelty one. Macpac do sell purple baseball caps that you can purchase online. Related to the hot weather, as I am sure you can imagine, if every child brought sun cream into school, it would be really challenging to manage safely for all children and potential allergies.
The first two Rosary sessions were a great success. It was so lovely to see so many children take part in this special opportunity to pray the Rosary. Thank you to Mrs. Newland for organising this and to Fr. Alistair for joining us in the sunshine! This takes place every morning in May, so there is still plenty of time to join in if you haven’t already.

Doubting Thomas was central to last Sunday’s Gospel and the children reflected on the difference between Thomas needing to see Jesus’ wounds in order to believe and our faith and belief - when we cannot physically see Jesus. They recognised that the disciples hadn’t had the aid of the Gospels to learn about what was going to happen to Jesus. We also thought about how hard it would have been for Thomas to realise that his friend Jesus was alive again after seeing him die. It must have been so hard for Thomas to understand and make sense of. Also in the Gospel, Jesus asks the disciples to forgive others – how ready are we to forgive others in our lives? The children also made links between Jesus sharing of peace in John’s Gospel and how we share the sign of peace with each other during Mass.

CAFOD Walk

Join us in the CAFOD Big ”Post Lent” Walk on Sunday 11th May at 12pm, a wonderful opportunity for our children to engage with an important cause by raising money to help people as they overcome poverty.
How can your sponsorship help?
£28 - can buy 10 metres of shade netting to protect young plants from the scorching sun until they are strong enough to grow on their own
£148 - can pay the labour costs to build a plant nursery out of anti-greenhouse netting, including installing steel beams and concrete foundations to keep crops safe for years to come.
£737 - can build a 5000ltr water tank and platform to store rainwater for use in growing crops.
The Friends have created a Just Giving page linked to CAFOD, so all funds raised can be uploaded there.
Food in School
|
Just a reminder that any snacks that the children bring into school at break time should be a fresh or dried piece of fruit or vegetable.
In regard to packed lunches, some of the children are having a lot of sweet foods in their packed lunch. Whilst this gives an initial hit of energy, it does not keep the children full over the afternoon when they still need to be focused for learning.
These websites have some useful ideas and suggestions regarding balanced lunch boxes that you may find helpful:

Parking and Road Safety
Sadly, there have been some issues with parking again this week on St. Nicolas Avenue that have almost created obstacle courses along the road that cars are needing to weave in and out of. This makes it really hard for cars to pass safely, for emergency vehicles to have a clear path and for pedestrians to park carefully.
Points to remember please:
