Autumn Term - Issue 5

It’s amazing what we’ve managed to pack into a four day week! On Monday some of our Year 6 children took part in a Football tournament at Glebelands involving three other schools. It was great to play on the new 3G pitch and see some great teamwork on display from those dressed in purple. Click the link in this newsletter to read a full report of the girls’ matches. There was more football on Thursday at Tillingbourne School afternoon for children in several year groups.

On Tuesday we welcomed Fraser Ellson who is the new Choral Director for the Arundel and Brighton Diocese. I am delighted to confirm that he will be visiting our school each week for the next two terms to deliver singing lessons for Key stage 2 children as part of the National Schools Singing Programme. More information on this below.

We also enjoyed our Harvest Liturgy on Thursday afternoon. We were bowled over by the amount of produce that the children brought in – this will be a fantastic boost for those that need it.

We are already turning our attention to next academic year with a series of Open Mornings for prospective parents. Please do book with the school office if you have a 3 or 4 year old who wants to join us next year.

You will have received an invitation to book appointments for the forthcoming parents’ evenings. Please ensure that you sign up as soon as possible – teachers are keen to touch base with you at this early stage of the academic year to catch up on how the first few weeks have been for your child.

God bless,

Thomas Hall, Head of School

Liturgy

In this week’s Gospel Jesus tells the parable of the two sons – one of whom is brazen enough to flatly refuse to do as his father asks. I wonder if any parents can resonate with this?! Happily in the parable the son realises the error of his ways and changes his mind. In our liturgy this week we likened this to the twice-daily battle of brushing teeth! All of us get things wrong; God is calling us to recognise these moments and make amends.

God of love, open our ears to listen to your word. Lead us to help one another and to live our lives as you ask us to. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Positive Parking

We continue to be very grateful to all our parents that park and stride/cycle/walk to school, and to those that park safely and respectfully around the neighbouring roads.

We are aware that some people continue to park on the yellow zig-zag lines outside the school and the church car park. Rule 243 of the Highway Code states that road users must not park near a school entrance; for the safety of all the children at St Cuthbert Mayne, we would ask that all members of our community adhere to this rule and do not park on the yellow zig-zag lines.

We must also ensure that we are polite and respectful to local residents at all times.

Please show your children, by your actions, that positive and respectful parking is a way to show that you care about other pedestrians, neighbours and road users. Be a good role model!

We have started to assess the children in phonics and are really impressed with how well they read. It is a huge task to assess all the children, and we are working as hard and as quickly as we can to ensure the children can move into their new groups.
