Autumn Term - Issue 51

Dear Parents and Carers,

Have you noticed the changes in St. David’s outside area? We have been working hard to develop the learning environment for our Reception children. The wooden house has had a revamp and we hope that the children enjoy using it. It looks so cosy and inviting – a great place to enjoy a good book!

This morning, we celebrated Mass with the Parish for our patronal feast day. Year 5 led the Mass and spoke beautifully when proclaiming the Word of God and leading the prayers and introduction. Our choir uplifted the Mass with their beautiful singing alongside the rest of the children’s voices. It was a wonderful celebration of St. Cuthbert Mayne and I know that I felt very moved by the Mass, as well as very proud of our children. At the end of Mass, Fr. Alistair said that it was “Beautiful and perfect!” My grateful thanks to Mrs. Armstrong for preparing and leading the Mass in her role as Prayer and Liturgy lead.

We hope that you enjoy a long weekend and remember St. Francis Xavier our trust patron,  whose feast day is on Tuesday 3rd December.

Mrs. Amy O’Donovan

Head of School

Collective Worship

This week in Collective Worship we celebrated the Solemnity of Christ the King and the last week of the Church’s year. We explored some of the similarities between images of Christ the King and our monarch as Jesus is often pictured holding an orb and sceptre, we also thought about the differences – particularly in the type of kingdom that Jesus rules over.

  Road Safety and parking

Just a reminder for all parents and anyone that picks children up from school, the Church car park should not be used by the school community at the end of the day. If people who do not read this newsletter pick up your children, please make sure that they know the Church car park cannot be used at drop off and pick up times. It has been particularly worrying to see people parking in the car park and then trying to drive out when families are still walking through having collected their children. Please remember to be kind and considerate when parking in the vicinity of the school.

The situation with the zig zag lines and double yellow lines is continuing to be dangerous outside of school. By not following the Highway Code, you are putting children and adults at risk. PCSO Aaron Baker will continue to make visits to school to work on this. Please make sure you are doing the right thing all of the time rather than only when the PCSO is present.

Wake Up Wednesday

This week’s Wake Up Wednesday is all about Snapchat as it has now been available for 14 years. Since it was launched there have been various features added and along with those there are new risks. You can find out more on the podcast.

Christmas Cards

If children would like to hand out Christmas cards to their friends in school, these can be brought in from Monday 9th December. If there are cards for children in other classes, please ensure that these are labelled with the class or year group to ensure they are delivered to the right person.

Ukranian Christmas Carol Concert

The Ukranian School Surrey are leading a Carol Service and play at Cranleigh Baptist Church on Saturday 30th November at 5pm. There is a suggested donation of £5 for adults and children are free. The proceeds will support those in need in Ukraine in partnership with Ukraine Mission UK.

Information regarding lunch payments.

To avoid accumulating debts for families, we cannot book lunches for children without funds in their Scopay accounts. Please note that this does not affect children in Reception, Year 1, or Year 2, who are eligible for universal free school meals, nor those receiving free school meals.

Beginning November 4th, if your child arrives at school without a pre-booked meal or packed lunch and does not have a balance on their Scopay account, our office will contact you. You will have the option to add funds to your account for us to book a meal or to bring in a packed lunch for your child.

If you are facing financial difficulties, please feel free to reach out to me in confidence so we can explore ways to support you.

Thank you for your understanding.
