Autumn Term - Issue 46

Dear Parents and Carers,

This Wednesday, we welcomed our first group of perspective families on tours of our school for the September 2025 intake. We were exceptionally proud of the wonderful job that Year 6 children did in leading the tours. In fact, they did so well that many of the parents didn’t have any questions for the staff! We look forward to welcoming more families over the coming weeks.

If you are out and about on Autumnal walks over the half term, please look out for any pinecones and conkers. We would love to have more natural materials in St. David’s class! Other items we are looking for are baskets made out of natural materials, wooden palettes and empty wooden electrical cable spools. Thank you!

Year 3 welcomed Haslemere Museum to school this week to bring their Science learning about Rocks and Fossils to life. You can read more about it later in the newsletter.

We look forward to welcoming you into school next week for Parents Evening – this is a wonderful opportunity to find out how your children are getting on in school and any next steps for their learning.

Enjoy a restful weekend,

Mrs. Amy O’Donovan

Head of School

Collective Worship

Last Sunday’s Gospel gave us lots to think about this week. The children thought hard about how they can follow Jesus and how like the rich man, they can live their lives so that they gain eternal life. We thought about how we can put Jesus before our material belongings, how we can share what we do have and the actions we can take to follow Jesus more closely. Ask us what Jesus meant when he spoke about how hard it is for a camel to go through the eye of a needle!

Year 6 Parents

Although your children are only a few weeks into year 6, it is time to apply for secondary school places! The Surrey deadline for Secondary School applications is the 31st October. Do make sure you have applied in time. Click here to go to Surrey’s Secondary School application page.

Wake Up Wednesday

Continuing on from our focus on mental health last week, this week’s Wake Up Wednesday focuses on self-regulation. Every year group has been learning about the Zones of Regulation this half term and learning strategies to help the children to self-regulate. Below are some tips for helping your children to self-regulate at home.

Reception 2025

We have just settled our Reception intake, but it is already time to think about 2025’s new intake! If your child is due to start school in September 2025 and you would like to find out more about St. Cuthbert Mayne Catholic Primary School, we will be running tours of the school so that you can see us in action and have the opportunity to meet with Mrs. O’Donovan, Head of School on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 23rd October 9.15am

  • Wednesday 6th November 9.15am and 6pm

  • Wednesday 13th November 9.15am

  • Wednesday 20th November 9.15am

Numbers will be limited to 6 families each week to ensure that the children in classrooms are not overwhelmed. To book a place, please complete this form.

Ms Robson is running cross country club again this year. The club is open to children in key stage 2, taking place on a Friday morning before school. The last session this term will be 6th December (weather permitting). The club will take place on Glebelands sports field, arrival time 8:00am for a warmup ( via the gate next to Christopher Robin Day Nursery), and our run will set off at 8:05am.  Parents are requested to stay and can also join in once the children have set off.  The club will run until 8:25am, with StCM children and parents leaving the site by 8:30am to ease congestion within Christopher Robin Day Nursery and the general school area.  Children who have taken part in the run, will be able to access the school early to get changed into their school uniform, if they have not got PE that day.  A change of shoes/trainers might be needed as we move forward into the winter months.

Please could you let Ms. Robson know if your child will be participating and if you have any questions please ask.
