It was wonderful to be at the Parish Mass last Sunday to see some of our children making their First Holy Communion. This is a truly significant day in these children’s faith journey. It couldn’t have been timed any better, with the celebration of Corpus Christi falling on the same day. Other children from St Cuthbert Mayne will be receiving Communion for the first time over the next two weekends. Please do hold the children making their First Holy Communion in your prayers this weekend.
I was lucky enough to be able to pop down to Chichester Harbour to see Y6 in their element, messing about in the water at Christian Youth Enterprises (CYE). They have spent the week sailing, canoeing, conquering fears of heights and playing games such as Archery Tag, which I can assure you is about 1000 times safer than it might sound! The activities are run by a large group of youngsters who are brim-full of energy and enthusiasm. Last night we sat around an enormous camp fire where we sang some very silly songs and shared some jokes which are unlikely to make it to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe! We are indebted to our own staff for giving up their entire week for this hugely memorable experience for our children; Mrs Robertson, Mr Good and Mrs Woodhams also thoroughly enjoyed their week with the children, but special thanks must go to Miss Rowe who led and organised the whole trip.
Our Celebration Assembly today was also an opportunity to mark the D-Day 80th Anniversary. We prayed for those people who lost their lives in WW2 and for peace and an end to conflict in our world today.
Punctuality
With various road closures in the area, Cranleigh has certainly become more congested during rush hour in recent months. The school gate opens at 8.40am and closes at 8.50am. I am only too familiar with the stresses of the morning routine and having to cajole children out of their cosy beds, into their uniform and get them off to school (ideally with some breakfast and ablutions thrown in for good measure). Despite all of these challenges, we need to ensure that signing children in late is very much the exception rather than the rule. They are only here to learn for just over 25% of each day and we need to make sure that it’s not less than that. Thank you for your continued support with this. Please do speak to a member of the office staff, your child’s class teacher or me if there is anything that we can do to assist.
Sun Cream
A quick glance at next week’s forecast doesn’t suggest that it’s going to be scorching hot. On sunny days please apply ‘once a day’ sun cream to your child before the start of the school day. This should be sufficient to last until the end of lunch break at 1pm. If you are concerned that your child needs to have a second application of sun cream please bring in a named bottle which your child should give to their teacher. Children will need to apply their own sun cream under adult supervision.
KS2 Sports Day
Next Friday our KS2 children will be heading over to Glebelands for Sports Day in the morning. Your child should wear a coloured t-shirt to match their house – please avoid football shirts. Parents and carers are very welcome to attend. Entry will be through the staff car park on foot at the east end of the site, not before 9.30am. We expect to be finished by 11.30am. There will be a member of staff from St Cuthbert Mayne present to sign parents in. For safeguarding reasons it is very important that parents stay with our Sports Day group and do not wander the site - it is essential that we adhere to this request as failure to do so risks jeopardising use of these facilities in future years. Please be aware that there are no toilet facilities for adults onsite.
