Autumn Term - Issue 1

Newsletter

There is no feeling quite like going back to school at the start of a new school year - such a mixture of excitement and nervousness for the children (and staff).

This year we are pleased to welcome new children throughout the school: Ella (Y1), Olive (Y2), Lev (Y2), Penny (Y3) and of course our new Reception class who are enjoying a gradual start to school life.

We are also joined by a number of new members of staff: Miss Quinlan (Y4 teacher), Mrs Hasler (Y5 teacher), Mrs Patrick (teacher), Mrs White (LSA), Mrs Harrison (LSA), Mrs Kay-Russell (LSA). We are delighted to have all of them join our school community and look forward to seeing them flourish over the months and years to come.

We are very pleased to be able to share our new website with you - as you can see this comes with a Newsletter tool, which I have spent a substantial amount of time trying to get to grips with; I've experienced limited success, so please be patient with us as we learn our way around! We hope that the new website will be a good tool to help us communicate with you about what's happening here at school.

This weekend we celebrate Education Sunday - former students, headteachers, teachers and governors have been invited to join us for Mass on this special occasion. Current pupils will be participating in the Mass and are encouraged to wear school uniform. We look forward to seeing lots of you there.

God bless, Thomas Hall

Collective Worship

This week we began our INSET Day with Mass in the Reception Classroom - formerly the chapel of the Most Holy Redeemer. Fr Alistair described it as providential that our INSET Day should coincide with the 90th anniversary (to the day) of the first Solemn High Mass being sung in the chapel. Fr Alistair spoke of the many prayers of parishioners that the bricks of that room had witnessed during its 30 years as parish church.

Lord Jesus, I ask for Your help as I begin this new school year.

Allow me to experience Your presence in the many blessings You put before me.

Open my eyes to the new challenges and exciting opportunities that this new school year brings.

Open my heart and mind to new friends and new teachers.

Give me a generous spirit to be enthusiastic with my studies and courage to accept new opportunities.

Help me to be attentive to my teachers and let me experience Your presence in my new friends.

Jesus, inspire me to do my best this year! Amen

During this first week of term children were introduced to three important principles that we follow at St Cuthbert Mayne. Why not start to use the same language at home - we want all our children to be...

60th Anniversary

There will be a full Octave of parish events and celebrations to mark the anniversary of the dedication of Jesus Christ Redeemer of Mankind Church.

Sunday 10 September, Education Sunday – a celebratory 11 am Mass highlighting the close links and contribution of St Cuthbert Mayne Primary School to the life of the parish, with invitations to former Headteachers, staff members and pupils.

Tuesday 12 September – Festal Mass for the Anniversary of the Consecration at 7.30 pm, inviting former parish priests, deacons, deanery clergy and local ecumenical representatives. Bishop Richard will join us for our anniversary celebration and will preside at the Mass which will take place at 7.30 pm followed by light refreshments including an anniversary cake.

Thursday 14 September - the monthly Over 50s Coffee Morning will take place in the school hall, with the school hosting our parishioners.

Sunday 17 September, Evangelii Gaudium Sunday – Parish Mass at Wintershall for the whole parish family (the only Mass this weekend) with a chance to take a picnic, and organised games and activities for the children – weather permitting.
