Dear Parents and Carers,
This week started with our Opening Mass for the Spring term Mass with the Parish, led by Year 4. Mr. Ellson very kindly re-arranged his day so that he could be with us and play the piano – it makes such a difference to have someone playing the piano. Thank you to Mrs. Armstrong for organising this and to Year 4 for reading, taking the lead singing the psalm and for your post-communion reflection.
Year 6 have taken part in Bikeability this week – in all kinds of weather and were amazingly resilient! One of the instructors said that the children’s behaviour has been fantastic, the children have listened well and are really good cyclists! Well done Year 6 – if you can cycle in this week’s weather you can cycle in any weather!
On Thursday, the children had a “Wild West” themed lunch! This caused a lot of excitement in the hall. I had a bit of a surprise when I turned around and a cowboy came to my rescue to help with a spillage!

Next Thursday, we are having a whole school Prayer Day. We are being joined by Lucy Hall, the Xavier Primary Chaplain, the Chaplain from St. Peter’s Secondary School in Guildford and some familiar faces from last year’s Year 6 will be returning to St. Cuthbert Mayne.
Amazing news! Well done to the girls in Year 4 who made and sold bracelets in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity. They raised an incredible £116.70! We are very proud of them.

God Bless,

Collective Worship

As we celebrated Mass on Monday, we didn’t have Whole School Collective Worship on Monday. However, Sunday was the Baptism of the Lord – when Jesus was baptised by his cousin, John the Baptist. How would John have felt to be the one to baptise Jesus? How would it have felt to witness Jesus’s baptism? How would those who were there have felt hearing God confirm who Jesus was? The Baptism of the Lord marks the end of Christmas tide, and we have now entered Ordinary time in the Church’s year – a time to grow!
Supporting your children’s learning
Next Friday is National Handwriting Day and we will be having a renewed focus on handwriting next week. You can access videos using the QR codes below to help your child at home with letter formation from the Read, Write Inc scheme.

Swimming

Year 2 are swimming every Thursday this term. We are still looking for volunteers to help with this up until Easter. If you are able to help, please contact the school office. Thank you in advance!
Online Safety
This #WakeUpWednesday edition offers clear, supportive guidance to help parents and educators feel more confident in navigating the online world with children and young people. It looks at how everyday conversations, simple boundaries, and a bit of digital awareness can make a real difference to young people’s online experiences.
This guide also explores how parents and educators can create an environment where children feel comfortable asking for help when something online unsettles them. By highlighting the importance of safe and healthy internet usage, these tips provide a grounded starting point for anyone supporting young people’s digital lives.

School Attendance
Our current whole school attendance to date is 95.4%, with the national average at 94.6%, this places us just above the national average, but we can do even better!

By prioritising regular attendance, you help your child to build strong learning habits, feel confident in school, and make the most of every opportunity to grow. When children are in school consistently, they learn more, develop stronger friendships, and feel a greater sense of belonging. Together, let’s keep aiming high and ensure every child has the best chance to thrive—everyday counts!
