Spring Term - Issue 77

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a week! It has been an incredibly busy one, with so much going on within school and beyond.

On Monday afternoon, year 4 led a talk for their parents on Healthy Eating to share their learning from their sessions with Dan Newman. The children had retained so many facts and information about our diet, the impact of ultra processed foods on our bodies and a lot about human waste.

There was a taste of Japan in Year 5 this week as part of their D&T learning when they made sushi – Mrs Chalstrey and I can confirm it was delicious.

In the scorching heat on Thursday afternoon, children from KS2 participated in District Sports at Charterhouse. We competed against Wonersh and Shamley  Green, Parkmead, Losely Fields and our Xavier friends from St. Edmund’s. The children competing displayed impeccable behaviour and superb sportsmanship and kindness. Most importantly everyone tried their best and gave it their all. Whilst the final results were disappointing for the children, everyone who took part should hold on to the passion and commitment they put in. I was immensely proud. Thank you to Ms. Robson, Mr Good, Mr Scarisbrick and Mrs Pickens for their help on the day and in preparing the children for the event.

Today, Reception had a wonderful time exploring Sayers Croft on their school trip. They were grateful for the shade and shelter of the woodlands. Year 6 shared their production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with the school this afternoon.  I know year 6 are looking forward to sharing this with their families on Monday. Finally, this evening, the children are looking forward to their (nearly) end-of-term disco organised by our lovely Friends!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Collective Worship

This week, we had a different focus in our collective worships. We took time to reflect upon our uniqueness and how we are all made in the image and likeness of God. The week specifically focused on disability awareness. The highlight of the week for me, was a very special pupil led collective worship in year 3 that was planned and led by Iggie. Evie, Iggie’s sister joined the collective worship too. Both Iggie and Evie have agreed to share this collective worship with KS2 in the new academic year. The children were given opportunities to reflect on how it might feel to have a disability and be treated differently. Their responses truly reflected the “Everyone Belonging” aspect of our school mission.

National Online Safety

AI isn’t just transforming the way we learn and work, it’s also reshaping the tactics scammers use online. From generating convincing phishing emails to fabricating influencer videos, criminals are using AI to make their scams more convincing than ever. Young people, who often embrace new tech quickly, can be especially vulnerable.

This guide highlights several AI-enabled dangers – including romance scams, deepfake audio and video impersonations, and fake job offers – and explains how to spot and report them. With clear tips for verifying content, thinking critically, and using trusted platforms, it’s essential reading for parents and educators to help young people stay one step ahead of the scammers.

Parking and Road Safety

Points to remember please:

  • Do not park on the zig zag lines

  • Ensure the junction to Ewhurst Road is clear for traffic to enter and exit

  • Do not park on the double yellow lines

  • Be considerate of the residents along St. Nicolas Crescent

  • Take care with where you are crossing – avoid crossing between parked cars
