Spring Term - Issue 69

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Carers,

Despite it only being a 4-day week due to the first of the May bank holidays, it feels like we have still managed to cram in 5 days of learning and school life!

Year 1 and 2 led a beautiful liturgy for the rest of the school on Tuesday that focused on Mary as we are in the month of May. They led with great maturity and reverence. The children taught the whole school how to sign the words of the Hail Mary. This really helped us all to think about the words we were saying and their meaning. See if your child can teach you!

We will all be quietly cheering Year 6 next week as they sit their SATS. The children should be proud of themselves and confident as they approach next week. They know what they are doing and by this time next week it will all be over!

There was much excitement in school last night among the staff as we heard the news of the white smoke in Rome! We prayed for Pope Leo XIV today as he starts his new role as the leader of the Catholic Church.

CAFOD Walk

Join us in the CAFOD Big ”Post Lent” Walk on Sunday 11th May at 12pm, a wonderful opportunity for our children to engage with an important cause by raising money to help people as they overcome poverty.

It is important that your children stay with you during the walk. If you are joining us for a picnic on the school grounds after the walk, we would ask that your children stay with you. The playground equipment will not be in action during the picnic. Your children will remain your responsibility during the event.

The Friends have created a Just Giving page linked to CAFOD, so all funds raised can be uploaded there.

Parking and Road Safety

Points to remember please:

  • Do not park on the zig zag lines

  • Ensure the junction to Ewhurst Road is clear for traffic to enter and exit

  • Do not park on the double yellow lines

  • Be considerate of the residents along St. Nicolas Crescent

  • Take care with where you are crossing – avoid crossing between parked cars

Request from The Friends.

  1. Shed Roof Repair
Our school shed roof is leaking, and unfortunately, it’s not keeping anything dry! We’re reaching out to see if there are any parents, guardians, or contacts in our school community who might be able to help repair it. Whether it’s donating materials, time, or expertise, we’d greatly appreciate any support. If anyone can assist or knows someone who might be able to help, please let us know! Email: thefriendsscm@gmail.com

  2. Classlist Reminder
We’d also like to remind all parents to ensure they have the Classlist app/website readily available and set up. Many important school updates are communicated through Classlist, and having it ensures parents stay informed. Supporting Classlist also helps The Friends continue to support the school effectively.

Annual School Travel Survey 2025 - From Surrey Travel Team

https://www.surreysays.co.uk/safer-travel/primary-school-travel-2025

The objective of this research is to assist us as we continue to develop a better understanding of the different types of travel used to and from school, and to ascertain if this is changing over time.  The Safer Travel Team’s goal is to assist schools to continue to encourage safer and more active ways of travelling to school.

To encourage parents to take part, we are offering a charity incentive for participation – we will donate £25 for every 100 surveys completed to a charity that the parent will choose from either Momentum Children’s Charity or Orchid Environmental Trust.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Cheryl Mason
Safer Travel Officer
