Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a busy final week of the half term. Although it has been a long half term, it has flown by and I cannot believe that I have already been at St. Cuthbert Mayne for 7 weeks! It has been such a privilege to get to know the children this half term. Thank you again to you as parents for all of your support and for working in partnership with the school.
It was lovely to welcome you into school for parents’ evenings this week. We hope that you found this a useful opportunity to find out about how your child has settled into their new year group, the progress they are making and any areas they need to work on moving forwards.
Year 6 continued to do a fantastic job in showing perspective parents around our school this week – thank you Year 6! The feedback from parents has been amazing and they have been blown away by your knowledge of our school.
After half term, please remember that children should be in winter uniform – please see the website for further details. Some of the children have been a little chilly coming into school in their PE shorts, so do consider whether they would be more comfortable in black or grey tracksuit bottoms. As the weather gets colder, please ensure that your child has a coat in school every day too!
Wishing you a wonderful, restful half term break,
Mrs. Amy O’Donovan
Head of School
Collective Worship
In Sunday’s Gospel, James and John thought they were more important than the other disciples and wanted to have positions either side of Jesus in heaven. We reflected on this and the times we might think that we are better than others and deserve more. The children thought about examples of this in their own lives e.g. wanting to always have their turn first. We thought hard about what Jesus was asking of us – to show our love through our service to others. This is something the children at St. Cuthbert Mayne do so willingly – older children eagerly seeking to support younger children, offering to do jobs to help adults - from counting out booklets, to showing parents around our school. The children are wonderful models for how to live out our Gospel values!
Year 6 Parents
Although your children are only a few weeks into year 6, it is time to apply for secondary school places! The Surrey deadline for Secondary School applications is the 31st October. Do make sure you have applied in time. Click here to go to Surrey’s Secondary School application page.
Wake Up Wednesday
The online world means that news, images and video can cross continents in seconds! This in turn means that children are able to access distressing news at the touch of a button. This could, of course, cause children extreme distress and worry. This week’s wake up Wednesday guide contains some valuable pointers for supporting children to deal with upsetting content they’ve encountered online.
Reception 2025
We have just settled our Reception intake, but it is already time to think about 2025’s new intake! If your child is due to start school in September 2025 and you would like to find out more about St. Cuthbert Mayne Catholic Primary School, we will be running tours of the school so that you can see us in action and have the opportunity to meet with Mrs. O’Donovan, Head of School on the following dates:
Wednesday 6th November 9.15am and 6pm (Fully Booked)
Numbers will be limited to 6 families each week to ensure that the children in classrooms are not overwhelmed. To book a place, please complete this form.
Girls football
Our girls' football team has had a great start to the season! On Friday 18th October, a year 3 & 4 team and a year 5 & 6 team took part in a football tournament hosted by Tillingbourne. Our Year 3 & 4 team were joint winners in their age category and the Year 5 & 6 team came 4th! Well done girls – we are all very proud of you. Perhaps we have some future lionesses in our school!
School Lunches
I have sent a separate email to all parents regarding lunch ordering for Key Stage 2 after half term. You can read it below:
"Starting after half term, we will be implementing changes to our school meal booking process.
To avoid accumulating debts for families, we cannot book lunches for children without funds in their Scopay accounts. Please note that this does not affect children in Reception, Year 1, or Year 2, who are eligible for universal free school meals, nor those receiving free school meals.
Beginning November 4th, if your child arrives at school without a pre-booked meal or packed lunch and does not have a balance on their Scopay account, our office will contact you. You will have the option to add funds to your account for us to book a meal or to bring in a packed lunch for your child.
If you are facing financial difficulties, please feel free to reach out to me in confidence so we can explore ways to support you.
Thank you for your understanding.
Drop off and pick ups
Whilst we recognise that everyone has the odd occasion where they are late to either drop their child off or pick up, this should be an exceptional circumstance. Please remember that the morning gate opens at 8.40am and then closes at 8.50am. If you arrive after the closing of the gate, you need to take your child into the office to sign in and you will be asked to provide a reason for the lateness.
Similarly, at the end of the day, the gate is opened just before home time - which is 3.15pm. The gate is closed once the playground is cleared. If you arrive after the gates are closed, you will need to collect your child from the school office. Thank you for your support with this.
Thank you
A big thank you to Lakers Building Merchant in Cranleigh, who donated and cut some wooden planks for Reception to use to make obstacle courses with in their outside area. The children are going to love making use of the new resources after half term. They have also offered to deliver some palettes for us too.
