Autumn Term - Issue 2

Newsletter

The first full week of term has been a particularly busy one. With the introductions and settling in of the first week complete, it felt like business as usual as the children begin to sink their teeth into the curriculum.

Our start of the school year has coincided with the 60th anniversary of the consecration of our parish church. There have been a number of events to celebrate which the school have been involved with. Last Sunday was Education Sunday and a number of children from the school read at Mass; welcomed parishioners; presented objects at the offertory procession to symbolise our school. We also presented the parish with a beautiful mosaic depicting St Cuthbert Mayne and our school crest. The mosaic will hang in the church as a reminder of the link between the school and the parish. Particular thanks to Mrs Bromley and Mrs Ritchie for designing the mosaic and helping the children assemble it. Every child in the school will receive a special prayer card bearing the new mosaic.

St Cuthbert Mayne displayed great courage in his life, as did our Year 6 children who stepped up during assemblies this week to deliver their leadership speeches in front of the whole school. They were brim-full of great ideas for how they can contribute to school life and how we can improve our school even more. It made the decision of whom to select for the various leadership positions very difficult indeed!

God bless,

Thomas Hall, Head of School

Familiar Faces

Last Sunday's Education Mass was a wonderful celebration for all past and present members of the St. Cuthbert Mayne community.  A time to reminisce and a time to reflect on the successes and strengths of our school.  Stephen (above) was a past pupil from 1963 who remembered the church being built and was delighted to find a reference to himself in the Log Book!

Staff members past and present were in attendance. Pictured below are Thomas Hall (Head of School); Helena Pickering (former Headteacher); Annie Loveder (former Headteacher); Julie Connor (former Assistant Headteacher).

Our Parish Coffee Club visited us this week as part of the 60th parish celebrations.  Greeted by a splendid array of cakes, biscuits and savouries, all served up by our fully trained Year 4 waiting staff!   Entertainment included musical performances and a dance display of the Cha Cha Cha by Year 3.  Mrs Newland (our RE lead) said, "It was a real privilege for the children to meet some of the senior members of our community.  They were very supportive."

Congratulations to Mrs Robertson and Ms Robson who spent the hottest day of the year, last Saturday, walking 26 miles of the Jurassic Coast.  A mammoth task! They were raising money for a charity very dear to our school, The Macmillan Cancer support.  If you would like to show your support for this wonderful charity, and for their incredible achievement please visit this link.

Year 6 Leadership Positions

The whole school community listened to some fantastic speeches this week. What really shone through was the children’s commitment to living out the school values and how much they love their school. St Cuthbert Mayne was described in different speeches as phenomenal, fantastic, fabulous and incomparable. While the speeches of course formed an important part of the decision-making process, there is so much more that goes into making those decisions about how the roles are assigned; this year it was particularly difficult with the embarrassment of riches available.

This year children have been introduced to three important principles that we follow at St Cuthbert Mayne. Why not start to use the same language at home - we want all our children to be...
