Autumn Term - Issue 83

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope that you enjoy the benefit of a long weekend with our INSET day today.

Firstly, I would like to thank you all for your patience with the multiple changes and adaptations that the catering company have been making to the options and service. I met with the area manager on Wednesday, and he has assured me that the team will work as quickly as possible to return to the full offer for the children.

We had our first Open Morning of the year on Wednesday with over 20 prospective families attending. Year 6 were amazing ambassadors for the school and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the families! One person even said they wish they could come to the school as a pupil and commented on the presence of Catholic values throughout the school!

Now that it is October, we take the opportunity to celebrate Mary, particularly through praying the rosary. The children have the opportunity to join with children from across the school every morning. It is such a beautiful way to start their day together in prayer and it was wonderful to see so many children participating on Wednesday and Thursday.

Year 2 led the school in our Harvest Festival Celebration at the Church on Thursday – the children read their prayers, acted out the Gospel and led theschool beautifully in singing. Thank you to all of the families for your generous donations to our village Food Bank.

Footballers from KS2 took part in a football tournament at Tillingbourne on Thursday afternoon.

Finally, I would really like to take the opportunity to get feedback from you, our parents, about the school through an online survey. Please click on this link to let us know your views on the school and how we can improve. The closing date for responses is 24th October.

Watch out for storm Amy when she arrives! ??

God Bless,

Mrs. Amy O’Donovan

Headteacher

Collective Worship

The Gospel we shared in collective worship on Monday was the story of Lazarus and the Rich Man. The children were able to reflect on the links between the Gospel message and Catholic Social Teaching. The rich man should have treated Lazarus kindly as he was wealthy enough to share what he had, rather than leaving him to scraps and have dogs licking his wounds. The children are taking an active response to this message with our celebration of Harvest Festival this week when their donations are given to Cranleigh Food Bank to help our neighbours in the village.

POLITE REMINDER - BOOKING SCHOOL LUNCHES

To help us ensure every child has a lunch ready for the week ahead, please make sure school lunches are booked by 11:00pm on Sunday. You’re welcome to book several weeks in advance if that’s easier.

If a lunch hasn’t been booked, we kindly ask that you provide your child with a packed lunch for the day. Unfortunately, the school isn’t able to book lunches on a daily basis, so if a child arrives without a lunch, we’ll need to contact parents/carers to bring one in.

Online Safety

This online safety guide explores EA FC 26 – the latest edition of the immensely popular football game. It flags potential risks, including in-game purchases, scams, and exposure to strangers via voice chat.

With new kits, updated squads and refined gameplay, EA FC 26 brings the thrill of top-tier football to living rooms once again. While it continues to offer family-friendly fun in modes like Kick-Off and Career, the ongoing popularity of Ultimate Team – where players spend money to build fantasy squads – brings a mix of excitement and risks.

Children can encounter issues such as gambling-like mechanics, voice chat with strangers, and potential exposure to scams. This guide breaks down the game’s most important features, highlights the key risks to be aware of, and shares practical advice for helping young players stay safe while gaming and interacting online.

Message from Surrey County Council regarding Attendance

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:

1.         If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

2.         If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.

3.         If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.

Surrey County Council is not responsible for authorising pupil absence and therefore cannot withdraw any Penalty Notice requests without the written permission of the Headteacher.
