Art and Design

Our Art curriculum is designed to fulfil the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum whilst being distinctive as our school curriculum. We aim to provide a deep learning experience, which will equip children with the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express their responses to ideas and experiences in a visual or tactile form. Art has the potential to fire imagination and is a fundamental means of personal expression.

While it is essentially a practical subject, art should provide opportunities for reflection and, with increasing sensitivity, pupils should acquire the ability to make informed, critical responses to their own work and that of others.

There is great pleasure to be derived from Art and it allows children to gain access to cultural richness and diversity. Our curriculum is topic based, cross-curricular and grounded in first-hand experience. It is designed to enthuse and inspire children and enable them to become lifelong learners who are independent, resilient, caring and active members of the local and global communities.
